Dear Parents/Guardians of Students Enrolled in First and Fifth Grade,

The Marysville School District seeks to identify students who demonstrate exceptional potential and may benefit from the district’s Highly Capable Student Services (HCSS) program.

The HCSS program provides differentiated learning experiences to challenge and engage students with advanced academic abilities, creativity, and task commitment. With recent changes in the state law on providing services for students who may be eligible for a Highly Capable Program, the district is required to universally assess all students in first and fifth grade. Universal assessment means screening a child’s current assessment results to determine their eligibility to pre-qualify for the program. This process will occur over the next several weeks. If your child pre-qualifies, you will receive a follow-up notification outlining the next steps, which includes further assessment of individual students.

Students referred to be considered for the HCSS program earlier this year, either by a teacher or a parent, will be screened using the same process outlined above. Questions may be emailed to brandon_moeller@msd25.org.
